Walking Tour of Ribeira
Your tour will start in Porto's historic center next to the statue of Bishop Ferreira, which is located in front of the famous Clérigos Tower.
The Church played an important role in Portuguese expeditions over the Atlantic and in other areas of the world. In fact, many priests decided to embark on these adventures themselves and left their homes to explore unknown territories. Do you know why Porto is known as 'the undefeated city'?
After hearing some intriguing anecdotes about the travels of these Portuguese explorers and clerics in the New World, you'll continue your wander through Porto's old town to the Church of São Francisco. This beautiful Gothic temple is located in the district where Infante Dom Henrique, or Prince Henry the Navigator, was born. Considered Portugal's best sailor and explorer, this hero of the 'era of discoveries' is the subject of many great adventures - some real, others legends - that will be revealed on your tour.
Not far from the church are the banks of the River Duoro, where you can view the famous Dom Luís I Bridge. We'll pass by other interesting places in Porto until we reach the Palace of São João Novo, built thanks to the influx of wealth from Portuguese explorers.
Our next stop will be Virtudes Park, where you'll be able to enjoy one of the most stunning views over Porto. Finally, after two and a half hours, the tour will end in Gaia on the other side of the Duoro, an area famous for its port wine cellars.
